Joey Badass, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Scott, is an American rapper, actor, and record producer. He is known for his old-school hip-hop style, intricate lyricism, and socially conscious themes. Joey Badass was born on January 20, 1995, in Brooklyn, New York. He developed an interest in hip-hop at a young age and began rapping and writing lyrics during his teenage years. In high school, he co-founded the hip-hop collective Pro Era (Progressive Era) with his friends, which became a platform for various emerging artists.

Joey gained significant recognition in 2012 when he released his debut mixtape "1999." The mixtape drew critical acclaim for its nostalgic '90s-inspired sound, clever wordplay, and impressive storytelling. It was widely regarded as one of the best mixtapes of that year. After the success of "1999," Joey Badass signed with Cinematic Music Group and Pro Era became an influential force in the underground hip-hop scene.

 

Joey Badass and Pro Era played a crucial role in reviving the boom-bap style of hip-hop, drawing inspiration from classic artists like Nas and Wu-Tang Clan. They became emblematic of the East Coast rap renaissance.

In 2015, Joey released his debut studio album "B4.DA.$$," which received critical acclaim and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album showcased his growth as an artist and further solidified his status in the hip-hop community.
